The official blog of Miss Mohawk Valley 2008.

Wow is all I can say!!

Hi everyone this is your new Miss Mohawk Valley Kieren Sheridan.  I am not completely computer smart so this is my first time writing a blog!!  Let me first say that it is such an honor to be a part of the Miss America program.  When I was little I would never have thought that I would ever be going to Miss New York and possibly Miss America!  This program enables girls to begin, continue or finish their education who may not have otherwise had the opportunity to.  It’s absolutely amazing!

Okay, now let’s talk about Miss Mohawk Valley!  The pageant was soooo much fun!!  Laurie Jean does such a great job with the pageant and each year it just keeps getting better.  All of the girls in it were so kind and friendly that I felt that I was with my sisters not girls who I had just met the day before!!  All of the girls are incredibly talented as well so it came as a complete shock when I won! (If you couldn’t tell from the pictures!)  So far I have made about 6 appearances and I have only been Miss Mohawk Valley for 16 days!!!  I have visited a nursing home, been on the radio and ate maple cotton candy to name a few!! (Once you’ve had maple cotton candy, you’ll never want anything else!!)

Besides being Miss Mohawk Valley I am also in my last semester at Fulton-Montgomery Community College and very excited about transfering to SUNY Oneonta for Language Education.  I also have a part time job and love to volunteer, so right now I am one busy and happy person!

I love being Miss Mohawk Valley and encourage anyone who is thinking about joining the program to go for it!  I have gained so much from competing for only 3 years in this program that will help me throughout the rest of my life.  I’d like to thank you for taking time to read my blog and hope you look back in future months to see what I’m up to!

A Busy Beginning for Miss Mohawk Valley 2008.

One of the most rewarding things for me as the director of the Miss Mohawk Valley Scholarship Program is hearing all the positive responses and overwhelming support from people I encounter throughout the community when they learn about our titleholder and what she is doing. It has been less than two weeks since the crowning of our new Miss Mohawk Valley, Kieren Sheridan, and already she is making us very proud.

The very next morning after her crowning she travelled to Verona for her first public appearance. A pancake breakfast at Vernon-Verona-Sherrill Central School started the day where Kieren was spotted and immediately invited over to do her first radio interview with our friends at WMCR. They were on hand for the annual Maple Weekend celebrations hosted by the VVS-FFA. Kieren joined the local maple royalty in handing out samples of maple cotton candy while mingling with the crowd.

The following morning it was an early start as she joined Big Poppa in the Morning on KISS FM…however the inside scoop is that she didn’t make it to the KISS FM studio right away because immediately upon entering the building she was noticed by Hank Brown who swept her away for an impromptu interview on the Beautiful Music stations before she made it to her intended destination! Everybody wanted to talk to Kieren. Later that day she chatted with Dave Silvers on BUG Country, wrapping up a whirlwind day of interviews.

Since then you may have seen Kieren’s photo appearing in a number of area newspapers…thanks go out to all our media friends for the great press! And this past Sunday she again teamed up with the Maple Queens for a presentation about one of the Mohawk Valley’s sweetest natural treats (maple syrup) during the Sugarin’ Off event at the Herkimer Homestead in Little Falls.

Over the course of the past week I have encountered several of the sponsors who were kind enough to support our program. Everyone has been impressed with the group of contestants as a whole (comments ranging from what beautiful girls participate to how wonderful that they all collected donations to help the Children’s Miracle Network) and also with the news of the winner. Kieren has already received several invites to participate in parades, festivals and special events with bookings already into the month of July! Please feel free to e-mail us through our website if you have an upcoming event that you would like Kieren to attend.

The next big thing for our program will be crowning Miss Mohawk Valley’s Outstanding Teen. We look forward to holding our teen pageant at the St. Johnsville Rehabilitation and Nursing Center on April 19th at 6:00. Kieren will be the hostess for the event and we can’t wait to support our teen winner at Miss New York’s Outstanding Teen pageant next month in Utica and then cheering on Kieren when she competes for the title of Miss New York in Huntington, Long Island this July.

The coming days will be busy with selecting Kieren’s official photographs (thanks to Jim at Prints Charles Photography who always makes Miss Mohawk Valley’s pictures look so beautiful), cosmetic sampling with Mary Kay consultant Marrick McDonald and finishing up the final touches on paperwork in preparation for the state pageant. Then in two weeks it is off to Long Island for the Miss New York contestant workshop. It’s a busy start to an exciting year for our new Miss Mohawk Valley and we are proud to support her as she begins her wonderful journey.
