Miss Mohawk Valley's Outstanding Teen Crowned

Ashley Nichole McDuffee, 15, of Fultonville was crowned Miss Mohawk Valley's Outstanding Teen during the annual pageant held Sunday (February 21st) at the St. Johnsville Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. She will advance to represent the Mohawk Valley at the Miss New York Outstanding Teen Pageant to be held in Albany this June. McDuffee will promote her platform issue, "Mental Illness Awareness - Helping Fight the Stigma of Mental Illness through Education and Advocacy", as she makes appearances in the community over the next year. She competed in interview, sportswear, talent, evening wear and on stage question categories to win the Outstanding Teen title.

Katherine Marlene Bant, 16, of Johnstown was named first runner-up. Other court members include Jessica Ann Lape, 17, of Canajoharie and Richelle Renee Reynolds, 15, of Rome. Last year's winner, Merrissa Hart of Amsterdam, was on hand for the crowning. The pageant was hosted by Miss Mohawk Valley 2009, Lynn Tryon and directed by Laurie Jean Britton. McDuffee will perform at the Miss Mohawk Valley pageant on March 20th at 7:00 at Ilion High School when Tryon will crown her successor.

Pageant Winners Crowned at Garlic and Herb Festival

Contestants from across the local region participated in the annual Mohawk Valley Garlic and Herb Festival pageant on Saturday (September 12th) in Canal Place, Little Falls. Five winners were selected for top honors to serve as this year's garlic royalty. The winners received a crown, sash and trophy from the festival along with roses courtesy of Rose Petals Florist in Little Falls.The pageant was emceed by director Laurie Jean Britton and included appearances by Miss Mohawk Valley, Lynn Tryon and the Herkimer County Maple Princess, Victoria Treadwell. Pageant Winners Crowned at Little Falls Canal Celebration

The tenth annual Little Falls Canal Celebration pageant was held Thursday evening (August 6th) in the Little Falls High School auditorium. Participants from across the Mohawk Valley competed for titles in five age divisions with top winners receiving a crown, sash and trophy along with roses courtesy of Rose Petals Florist in Little Falls. The pageant was directed and emceed by Laurie Jean Britton and judges for the event were Victoria Yusko, Della Cummings and Heather White. Winners and court are as follows:

The second annual Miss St. Johnsville Youth Pageant was held Thursday evening (May 7th) at the St. Johnsville High School auditorium. The event was sponsored by Country Treasures Furniture and Mohawk Valley Foods of Bridge Street in St. Johnsville. Participants competed for titles in six age divisions with top winners receiving a crown, sash and trophy. The pageant was directed and emceed by Laurie Jean Britton and judges were Victoria Yusko, Glenna Snell and Lawrence Woodman. Results are as follows:

The Miss St. Johnsville Youth Pageant winners will participate in events throughout the Springest weekend.

Miss Mohawk Valley's Outstanding Teen Crowned in St. Johnsville

Merrissa Hart, 17, of Amsterdam was crowned Miss Mohawk Valley's Outstanding Teen during the annual pageant held at the St. Johnsville Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. Hart performed a piano solo for her talent and during the interview spoke about her platform, "A Cure for AIDS and How it Affects Men and Women". Hart will represent the Mohawk Valley during Miss New York's Outstanding Teen pageant in Albany this June.

Jessica Lape, 16, of Canajoharie was named first runner-up and Richelle Reynolds, 14, of Rome was second runner-up. Hart was crowned by Courtney Sheridan, Miss Mohawk Valley's Outstanding Teen 2008. Entertainment was provided by several former Miss Mohawk Valley winners who performed for the audience, which included the public as well as residents of the nursing home.

The pageant was hosted by Miss Mohawk Valley 2009, Lynn Tryon and directed by Laurie Jean Britton.

Caring Crowns For A Cause

Pageant Contestants Help Raise Money For Children

The Miss Mohawk Valley Scholarship Program hosted a youth pageant on Sunday (March 22nd) at the Amsterdam Elks Club to help raise funds for the Children's Miracle Network on behalf of their contestants. During the event participants in the Caring Crowns for a Cause pageant competed for several titles. Miss Mohawk Valley, Kieren Sheridan spoke to the crowd about the partnership between the Children's Miracle Network and the Miss America Scholarship Fund, which encourages pageant contestants to raise funds and awareness about this cause on the local, state and national level. Winners are as follows:

Several youth winners were selected during the sixth annual Miss Mohawk Valley Youth Pageant and Talent Showcase events held Saturday (March 14th) at the Century Club in Amsterdam. The pageant winners will be featured in a production number and the talent winners will showcase their individual performances during the Miss Mohawk Valley Scholarship Pageant scheduled for March 28th at 7:00 at Ilion High School.
